You can make Stromboli with chicken, sausage, pepperoni, spinach, broccoli, peppers, steak.. your imagination is the limit.
Take dough, place onto floured surface. Roll into a rectangular shape.
Place onto a cooking sheet either lined with parchment paper or greased with oil. Flatten into a long rectangle, approx. as wide as the cookie sheet. Let dough rise while prepping the rest of the stromboli.
Shred all cheeses.
Slice all ingredients: garlic, onion, pepper, pepperoni, mushrooms, etc.
Preheat a pan on medium heat.
Cook garlic, onion, and pepper for 5 minutes.
Cut open sausage link, put filling into pan. Cook for 10 minutes, or until cooked through.
Mix mushrooms into pan, cook for another 5 minutes.
Take everything off pan, place in bowl aside.
Take dough, layer shredded mozzarella cheese covering dough except for 2 inches on all sides.
Place a bit of filling on top of cheese.
Top with another light layer of cheese.
Place remaining filling on top of that.
Now: take the 2 shorter ends and fold that in on top of the filling. Then take the 2 longer sides and fold on top of everything, creating a closed envelope-type roll.
Arrange stromboli on the cooking sheet, seam side down.
Optional: place an egg wash over top.
Take out of oven and let rest for about 5 minutes.
Slice and serve with warm marinara sauce.
